Welcome to the United Nations System Nigeria website!
The UN System is working in support of the government of Nigeria to
address development challenges and attain the Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs). It also works closely with development partners and civil
society organizations.
This site highlights collaborative activities of the UN Country Team in
Nigeria and is designed to be a useful resource for all those who are
interested in the work of the UN in this country by providing wider
public access to information, sharing knowledge and facilitating
partnership as well as stimulating debate about development issues in
Nigeria.
We will appreciate any suggestion, comments concerning this site and we

News/ Events
Nigeria’s 2006 census provisional results comprising of National and 37
state figures were submitted to the President and Federal Executive
Council by the Chairman and Members of the National Population
Commission. Representatives of Development Partners, who had played key
roles in the census, particularly the EU and the UNFPA, were in
attendance at the submission of the results and the President duly
acknowledged their contributions. According to the figures released,
Nigeria’s Population as at March 2006 was 140,033,542 comprising of
71,709,859 males and 68,293,683 females, giving a sex-ratio of 105 and
an annual growth rate of 3.2 percent from the last census in 1991.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Frank Nweke Jnr,
the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Inna Mayam Ciroma, the Director
General of the National Agency for Drug and Food Control (NAFDAC), Dora
Akunyili, the Chief Executive of the National Programme on Imunization
(NPI), Dr Egugie Abebe and the Senate President of the Children’s
Parliament joined the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr Alberic Kacou and the
UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Ayalew Abai, to launch the 2007 State
of the World Children Report and mark UNICEF 60th Anniversary in
