Introduction to the Resident Coordinator's System
The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the country key person that represents the United Nations System on issues of common concern. In this capacity, he helps to bring together the different UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level. He is the designated Representative of the Secretary General for development operations in the country and works closely with Resident Representatives as well as the national government.
The specific duties and responsibilities of the Resident Coordinator include among others: the advocacy for the United Nations System, the Operational and management coordination as well as well as the coordination of Humanitarian and Emergency Assistance. The UN RC also serves as the head of security.
The Resident Coordinator's office supports the RC's roles and demands of coordinating the work of the UN System in the country including supporting the work of the Inter-Agency Task Teams/Theme groups.
