
Mr. Daouda Touré on 14 April 2010 assumed duty as UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria. Mr. Touré was the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Ghana since July 2005.
In that capacity he led coordination efforts of the UN System for better and strategic support to Ghana’s efforts to meet its development objectives in general, and the Millennium Development Goals in particular. He led UNDP’s contribution to strengthening the democratic process in the country and provided leadership and guidance to support the peace architecture of the country, and the Natural Peace Architecture. He played a critical role in reinforcing the ownership of Ghana for the national development process.
Mr. Touré served as UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and also UNDP Resident Representative in Uganda for six years from 1999 – 2005. He provided leadership for UNDP/UN in various economic development areas and on important humanitarian issues with particular focus on Northern Uganda. During this period he led the UN system efforts at better coordination of all the agencies and organizations, resident as well as non-resident.
Before joining the field, Mr. Touré was a Senior Policy Advisor at UNDP Headquarters and played a critical role in formulating the UN System-wide Special Initiative on Africa, UNSIA for which he helped several UN Country Teams in Africa, in its timely implementation.

Prior to joining the United Nations in 1995, Mr. Touré worked with the African Development Bank in several positions and different locations – Senior Country Economist at headquarters in Abidjan covering six African countries, Principal Economic Adviser in the North Africa Regional office and, Task Manager on policy-based lending for Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt. He led mission teams on economic policy reform for Egypt and Sudan during the same period.
He was Deputy Regional Representative for North America based in Washington (1992-94) responsible for cooperation with Bretton Woods Institutions, Inter American Bank and UN agencies supporting development in Africa. He liaised with US officials on issues related to ADB strategic orientations.
Daouda Touré started his professional career in his home country, Senegal as Financial/Economic Consultant in a consultancy firm; Managing Director of a private company and Head of Department in a development bank. He holds a Masters degree in Finance and another Masters degree in Economics. He is also a graduate in sociology. Mr. Touré has written extensively on socio-economic development and good governance in Africa.
He is married with three children.
