The UN week celebration in Nigeria was celebrated under the theme:
“Make poverty history; achieving the Millennium Development goals in
Nigeria”.
The activities kicked off with a media briefing chaired by the Resident
Coordinator (RC), Mr Alberic Kacou, accompanied by Representatives (R)
of various UN agencies with offices in the country. During the
occasion, the RC stressed the significance of this year’s theme as well
as the importance for Nigeria to achieve the MDGs. He further explained
that during that week, the UN will also observe the World Food day, and
UN Habitat Day on October 16th, the International Day for the
Eradication of Poverty (IDEP) on October 17th.
Journalists had the opportunity to interact with the various Reps
present. They were given media kit, showcasing how the work of agencies
contributes to the attainment of the MDGs in the country.
The climax of the UN week of activities was the UN Day celebration
which was commemorated in Nigeria on October 26th because of the
